Back in 2010 I lost my job and my husband who is self employed was off work for a while due to a major health issue. During this time, I contacted Everhome to inquire on the programs that were released by Obama for help on saving your home. We were not delinquent in my mortgage at the time but were at risk of being delinquent due to our circumstances.
We were advised of the repayment plan where we lower our monthly mortgage payments for 6 mths, then pay the difference at the end of the 6mth to be brought current. It sounded like a reasonable, logical work around to our temporary situation. However, this is NOT how that program works. At the end of the 6mth period we received a foreclosure notice. I contacted Everhome who advised me that I was showing as 6 + months behind. I inquired about our payments that we had been making and they said those payments get escrowed during this period which automatically makes you in default of your loan and we could attempt to apply for a mortgage modification.
We applied, and got denied. BIG SURPRISE. I obtained an attorney to help me with a modification who has had nothing but issues in working with Everhome and we are now officially in foreclosure. Everhome actually told me Monday that we were denied one modification and it is now awaiting on an approval or denial from another investor and there is nothing they can do until the investor gets back to them. Meanwhile, we can still loose our home if the investor does not get with them in time before we receive our sale date of our home.
